Examining Changing Regimes of Sexuality in Post-Soviet Muslim Republics
In this binational research project, funded by the AHRC-DFG binational scheme, I team up with Vlad Strukov (Leeds) and Timothy Nunan (Regensburg), alongside further colleagues, to examine the role of genders and sexualities in the search for a national identity in post-Soviet Muslim-majority republics (with the case studies of Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan) under the conditions of newly embraced nationalism and resurgent religiosity. The project runs from 2025 to 2028.
